We left our hotel at 7:48. The day started out great until my bank called. They told me that someone had tried to cash a suspicious check. The check was a very old one I had that was my old address and old name. They had to open us a new checking account. At least, the debit cards were still working. Thank goodness for my bank.
It seems my youngest son let someone stay in our home while we were gone. He was supposed to take care of the house and my dog Alice. I filed a police report but I know nothing will ever come of it. I finally got hold of my son who told me Alice was with him and that he thought he knew who did it. I was not sure what else was stolen until I got home. I believe my son is back on drugs. He wasn’t even at the house while we were gone.
Well back to our road trip. Our next stop was Pigeon Point Lighthouse. I just love lighthouses.
Perched on a cliff on the central California coast, 50 miles south of San Francisco, the 115-foot Pigeon Point Lighthouse, one of the tallest lighthouses in America, has been guiding mariners since 1872. Its five-wick lard oil lamp, and first-order Fresnel lens, comprised of 1,008 prisms, was first lit at sunset, November 15, 1872. The lens stands 16 feet tall, 6 feet in diameter, and weighs 2,000 pounds. Now on display in the Fog Signal building, it sat in a lantern room constructed at the Lighthouse Service’s general depot in New York before being shipped around the Horn. Although the original Fresnel lens is no longer in use, the lighthouse is still an active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation using a Vega Marine Rotating Beacon.

Next we rode across the Bay Bridge which is a toll bridge. It was really interesting.

As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries about 260,000 vehicles a day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the United States.

We stopped for gas In Port Reyes and Eureka where we also got some food. We decided we would drive until we got into Oregon where the hotels were cheaper. We were right and stayed at Brooking’s OR.

Even with the fraud we still had a wonderful day. The drive was beautiful and very windy.
