It’s Working

Today was weigh in day and I lost 3 more pounds.  I am so happy.  I have been feeling so much better.  Several people at church yesterday said how good I looked. I didn’t know I looked bad before but it was great to hear. I wore a black outfit that I think made me look slimmer. I was just surprised to hear so many compliments and it made me feel great.

I still have at least 30 pounds to lose to get to where I am more in my zone. I would really like to lose 50 pounds. I know I am 63 years old and will probably never weigh what I did in high school.  In fact, I think that would be too much anyway. I would probably look too thin which I think makes people look sickly.

I am having to start slow on my walking because since over doing it in Italy I have got Plantar Fasciitis. This causes severe heel pain. It is worst when I have been sitting or getting up in the morning. The plantar fascia is a tough band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes. I just got up one morning and my heel was killing me.  It is slowly getting better with a lot of stretching and icing.  What I decided to do is up it 1000 steps a week until I get up to 10,000 again. To think I was walking 10 miles a day before my knees finally gave out. After replacing them I started walking again. The next thing I knew I was in the hospital getting my back fused in two places and decompressed in one. I hopefully, will be released next month, since it has been a year. Anyway I put on a lot of weight and have a hard time even reaching 5000 steps a day. I started with 2000 last week which seemed to be easy. I will start with 3000 this week.

I love my new life change!

Star Wars in Flannel

So how was your Sunday? Mine was wonderful.  We went to church this morning.  After church we went to visit my friend, Trevor, at the hospital.  She is the one I told you about in an earlier blog when she went to the ER and got admitted to the hospital.  If you have been following along with my story you will remember that I promised to finish her baby blankets and burp rags. This just meant a bunch of straight lines.  I can whip that up in no time.  I tell Trevor we have to head home so I can sew for her.

I wanted a sewing machine for Christmas two years ago. I was going to start quilting. David got me a very nice one and then for my birthday bought me a sewing table.  I was set, except I didn’t think about two knees being replaced and my back getting fused. Anyway I get home, go grab my machine realizing that I have not used it yet.  Well that is no big deal all machines thread pretty much the same. Why would I need to read instructions? I have it threaded now and one of Trevor’s bobbins in the machine. I get the burp rag under the foot. I am all ready to give the new sewing machine a spin. I put my foot gently on the foot pedal and push.  Off I go! Yeah! No wait why is it going so slow? I have the pedal to the metal.  It should be really pumping that needle up and down. Ok well I can live with this for now. I just want to get this sewing done. Then I run out of bobbin. I went to make a new one and had to get the instructions out. Got that taken care of back to work I go. Then I notice that the machine says quilting machine.  I am now wondering if that is why it goes so slow. Now I think I will break down and watch the DVD that came with it.  I did get all the sewing done.

I bet you have been reading this wondering what does this got to do with Star Wars let alone flannel.  Well if you want to sit a while longer I will tell you. The blankets were two pieces of Star Wars flannel sewed together which was really cute.  Then to make the burp rags she had taken pre-folded diapers on one side she sewed the Star Wars flannel material.  I thought that was a great idea.  She was making them to take with her to Vegas to meet her new-born grandson.  She is supposed to go on Tuesday. We will pray she is well enough to go.

Well I guess it is time to say good-nite.

No Babies Today – Picnic Day

I know I didn’t blog yesterday, but nothing really happened. We just ran errands, boys looked at a job and I gave a person a jump. Oh yea, I BBQ two brisket yesterday for our church picnic.

The diet went fine. We had pizza with cauliflower crust.  I do like that.

The picnic was fun and it was a nice day.  It was a lot of fun laughing and joking with friends on a beautiful day in Alaska. We had tons of food.  I think the brisket went over good.

I tried sticking to my diet.  I ate meat, salad and some fruit.  There was so many good-looking desserts I to ignore which I did, but there was one of Zoey’s gluten-free cakes which are always so good.  I had a small piece of that and a small piece of chocolate.

Tomorrow will be the day of truth.  I will see if I lost weight.  Stay tuned to find out!

Concert at Chiesa di Ognissanti

The Anchorage Concert Chorus had a concert in the church of Chiesa di Ognissanti.  Another beautiful church.  It would have been nice if they had more people there but the ones that were totally enjoyed their concert.  It sounded wonderful.

Anchorage Concert Chorus Sings at St Peter’s Basillica

DSC_0927I am having a terrible time with the internet in Italy.  I can’t seem to get an photos uploaded.  That is why I am not posting every day.

What an honor it was for a chorus from Alaska to get to sing during mass at the Basillica.  They sounded so wonderful.

I got to sit in the front pew because I was Catholic.  If you weren’t you had to go sit in the chairs in the back as a visitor.  I can’t believe that I have now actually received communion at St Peter’s Basillica.

We Missed Our Flight

After church we stopped at Midnight Sun Brewery for lunch and our last pre-trip Juju, Panty Peeler Beer and orange juice,  so good.  We said bye to our two friends Judie and Kim, then headed home.  We change clothes and David sits on the couch.  I told him I was taking Dusty grocery shopping.  He is like fine I will probably be asleep when you get back.  Dusty and I get home from shopping and sure enough David is sleeping.  Dusty and I go do some things we had to do around the house.  I get my stuff done and just before I seat down David wakes.  He grabs is phone out of his pocket, then he says, “It’s 4:38”.  I reply, “yea why”.  He then says, “Our flight was for 3:20”.  To which I reply, “Yea, tomorrow”.  To his relief we didn’t miss the flight.

ONE DAY TO GO,  JUST OVER 22 HOURS!
