Even with Covid-19 causing many to think this year is the worst ever we found things to be thankful for. In fact, we found a lot; no one in our family have contracted Covid-19, we have a loving and caring family, we are very lucky to have 12 beautiful grandchildren, we have portal to stay connected to our family which seems to make them seem closer and many more.
David and I are lucky that we do have some family here. That means that we went to Heather and Dan’s for dinner. Heather and I split the cooking which made it easier on both of us. I did cheap on desserts by buying the pumpkin pie from a local bakery and the Lemon bundt cake from Maria to support her school. They were both delicious and I didn’t have to cook them which was nice.
When we got to their house Heather and the girls already had the table set.
Heather had never stayed at the The Contemporary Resort and wanted to so we could view the fireworks from our balcony. Of course, the fireworks had been canceled due to Covid-19. She paid extra to get this suite but we thought we would still be able to have a good view of the park.
We arrived at The Contemporary Resort at around 4. Our room was ready, so we walked in to the lobby. We just didn’t feel the magic. The people were great but it just seemed like a normal hotel. There was Mickey ears on the carpet. We continued to the room hoping for more there. The suite looked like many other suites I had stayed in all over the world when we had our timeshare. It was nothing special. There was Disney art on the walls but that was it. So it began, no magic, like we expected from all our previous trips to Disney.
Heather, Dan and David when out to the camper trailer to get everything we needed for the hotel. I stayed in the room with the girls. We went out on the balcony and watched the choo choo, monorail. The girls enjoyed that. We could see the family unloading the camper from our fifth floor balcony.
David had to take me to Hershey, PA for my last doctor appointment on my left thumb. After surgery, a cast for 5 weeks, a brace and 6 weeks of therapy I have been released to go out and cause trouble. To celebrate we decided to check out a few breweries in town.
First stop was Rotunda brewery and it was lunch time. We were starving by this time, so perfect place for lunch.
We were told that because of Covid-19 you have to buy food with your beer. I guess it is to keep people from over crowding or maybe because if you have to eat something you won’t stay as long which will allow more people a chance to come in. Anyway we didn’t care we were ready for lunch. Since we did plan to hit a couple of more places decided to eat small.
It was nice inside and the beer was good.
The food was nice. I had deviled eggs which were great. David thought he would go with the pretzel. I don’t believe it went with the small taste he was hoping for.
We said good bye to Rotunda Brew Pub; we did find out that the owners last name is Rotunda.
Heather called Friday night to see if we wanted to do something fun with the girls on Saturday. We thought about several options but since Daddy had to go work on the apartments for a few hours we decided on something close. We picked PerryDell Farm. We had never been there before and the girls had never been close to moos.
This dairy is family owned and operated. It was bought in 1923 by Howard Perry. It was taken over by his two sons, George and Roger, who started bottling their milk. It is now run by George’s 3 sons. After the loss of Alice, David and I decided when we got a house with a yard we would adopt another dog. We started looking while we were in Seattle. I filled out applications at different rescues. David had done research on Great Pyrenees and thought one would fit into our family great.
We got approved by several rescues but by that time the female dogs we wanted were gone. Then Lee called from Operation Paws for Homes to talk to us. We were approved but once again the female dog we wanted was gone. She told us about Sweetheart Harrison who tested positive for heart worm and would not available until March 12th. We got back from Seattle March 10th. She told us that he was very sweet but no one wanted him because of his size. We thought about it for about 1 minute. Then we said we want him. We started talking to the foster Mom, Becky, she told us all she knew about Harrison. She was sending us photos of him. We were starting to love him before we met him. It was decided that we would pick him up on Friday, March 13th. This day will always be lucky to us.
Harrison was in Virginia. Becky told us she would meet us halfway. We met in Maryland.

David had to go to the Kenai Peninsula to work and I went with him, so I could visit my friend Stella. Stella and I decided to take a day trip to Homer.
We got up that morning and headed out for our 80 mile trip to Homer with a few stops for photo ops on the way down.
We stopped on top of the hill leading into Homer to take some nice scenic photos.
I also got some nice flower photos there.
We then drove on into Homer and out on the Spit. The forces of nature that built the Homer Spit might have washed it away years ago, if humans had not intervened. Winter storms roaring out of the northwest try to separate the 4.5-mile strip of sand and gravel from the mainland almost every year, but rock walls and perseverance keep it intact.
While on the Spit you can’t leave without taking a few shots of the marina. Guess who happened to be in the marina, Time Bandit. If you are fans of the Deadliest Catch you will know what I am talking about. I myself have never watched the show. I guess because I live here.
After leaving the Spit we stopped at Grace Ridge Brewing. It is not as well known as Homer Brewery but I think they have great beers. Check it out if you are in Homer sometime.
As the day went on our sun started to get covered by clouds. As the people arrived we were deciding where to have the beer tasting, inside or outside. We finally decided on eating inside and drinking by the fire pit.
I took my brisket off the pit. It had been smoking for 7 to 8 hours. It looked beautiful.
Well today I went out to help Dan to pick up their 17′ travel trailer. They were supposed to pick it up yesterday but they didn’t have the stuff it get the van ready, so they asked if they had the stuff to get the truck ready. They said yes and to bring the truck in today. Then since that was only going to take an hour and half we could drop the van off when it was done. It had to be fixed at another shop and they would fix it tomorrow. This means the kids could still go camping this weekend. This was our plan for the day.
Now what happened today went a little different. I drove out to Eagle River where Heather and Dan live. I watched the girls while Dan worked on truck. I got there at 10. While I played with the girls Dan got the hitch put back on the truck, I am not just talking about the ball.
Next we loaded the girls in the van around 12:30 to drop the truck off. I drove my old van to town while Dan drove his truck.
We dropped the truck off and figured we would go to lunch. After lunch we still didn’t hear from ABC RV, so decided to go garage selling. Grandma needed toys for the girls when they were at her house. I only found one toy. It was a wooden logging truck. What little girl wouldn’t want a logging truck.
Dan and I found a toy for us but Heather said no. It was Unimog. I didn’t no what it was but I thought it looked really cool. I wanted to drive it. I used to love to drive our skidder.
Anyway now it is 5 and the girls were hungry, so we headed back to check on the truck. They still didn’t have the truck ready. We got the girls feed but still haven’t got the van dropped off. I told Dan that we would do it tomorrow for them, so they could still go camping. Finally they said it was ready. I took the van to our place and Dan came to pick me up, so I could get my car at their place. When I got home Dan called to say the truck still wasn’t ready but would be soon. He finally made it with trailer in tow.
Dan and Dusty went to put the car seats in the back seat. Now his truck is a 1987 and if you can remember how small the backseats are in them. They had to move the seat all the way up and still couldn’t quite get the back of the seat all the way back. Then you put a 6’2 man behind the steering wheel and it is pretty funny. Dan looks like he is driving some little car with his knees under his chin.
We arrive at their house and I go in to talk with Heather. Dan walks in and tells her you need to see something. He shows her how close the seat is to the steering wheel and her reply was you want me to drive. With her only being 5′, we don’t really think she is that tall, she thought the seat looked just right. We headed home leaving them to pack their trailer and head out. I am not sure who drove.
As for our 5th day of Keto it went good. Had a shake for breakfast and at lunch I ate brisket, collard green, and coleslaw. That was my first time eating out and it was easy to find food I could eat.
I came home and what I had planned to cook was Beef Storganof with cabbage instead of noodles. It was supposed to be cooked in the slow cooker which I had forgot. When I get home I was trying to figure out what to cook. Then I think why can’t I cook it in my express pot. Well I found out I could.
