We have been checking out all the different happenings in downtown York. We went to checkout FestivICE.

The day started getting the girls dressed in their winter gear. I remember doing this with all my kids. By the time you got number 5 dressed number one was coming back in.

There were quite a few ice sculptures. They were so small compared to the ones in Alaska.

The girls enjoyed looking at the ice sculptures and even got to sit in an Ice throne.

Kate and Bekka loved the huge bubble.

The girls got to meet the local mascots. A Raven and the Abominable Snowman.

The best thing was the 40ft ice slide.

Bekka really enjoyed it so Mommy took her back for another ride while Daddy and Grandpa watched Kate. Mommy had to take her because Daddy barely fit on the slide.

I just had to get a photo of the radio DJ’s coat.

These were painted on a wall. They tell some of the odd history of York. Be sure to read what they say.

It was a small festival but we enjoyed it. I think it had a lot to do with watching the reactions of our granddaughters, Kate and Bekka.

3 Barons Renaissance Fair

In June of every year we have a Renaissance Fair here in Anchorage. We enjoy going and spending time with the family there. It is a cheap day out with the tickets $8 for adults and $5 for children which can be bought at the gate or online. It is also educational for adults and children.

David and I did hang out with the pirates a lot due to the fact that they were in the beer garden, besides being fun. There is a lot of singing and storytelling which leads to tons of laughter.

You will receive tokens that you use to vote on which of the Barons you prefer Red, Blue or Green. There are many different shows that you can watch from sword fighting to ….

How about learning about knights? This is very interesting.

Then there is always the throwing of tomatoes at the actors which is always fun. Well maybe not for the actors. To think they wait all year for these 2 weeks to get tomatoes thrown at them. It is a good laugh.

All these people work very hard to make these two weekends fun for everyone while learning something.

We also ran into a friend of ours playing her harp for tuppence.

Even our twin granddaughters had fun!

Now on the other hand our niece and great nephew seemed to have gotten into a little trouble.

After some bargaining we managed to get them released.

At the end of the day it is time to watch the parade of the 3 Barons.

Covered Bridge in Pavia

We were told we had free time before dinner, so off we went to find the covered bridge we were told about. We got directions which we immediately screwed up. This means that we went sightseeing a little more. Finally, the covered bridge was in sight. There were tons of people on it and closed to vehicles. To our surprise I there was what kind of festival going on.
In 1431 there was a clash between the fleet of Filippo Maria Visconti, Lord of Milan, led by Pal of Eustachi, Bunting and Captain General of the Naviglio Ducale and the boathouse, and the impressive fleet of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, led by Nicolò Misrepresent. The navigli ducali, set sail from Pavia to prevent an attack on the city near Cremona, they stumble into the fleet of the Serenissima, bolstered by a hundred ships loaded with soldiers, went up the river right to move to besiege the ancient Ticinum ( the current Pavia). LL return to Pavia was triumphant!
