We have not been around lately but our friends, David and Cindy, asked us to go on a road trip with them to Texas. We left Alaska on a rainy Friday.Continue reading “Flat Ole Hippies Go to Texas”
Our friends, the Crewdsons, asked us to go to the Alaska State Fair on Saturday. We had never been before.
We saw all kinds of things, like little trees, plants that looked like mammoth, tractor pulls, and the record-breaking pumpkin weighing at 1471lbs.
As the day went on our sun started to get covered by clouds. As the people arrived we were deciding where to have the beer tasting, inside or outside. We finally decided on eating inside and drinking by the fire pit.
I took my brisket off the pit. It had been smoking for 7 to 8 hours. It looked beautiful.
We went on another road trip with our friends to Sterling and Soldotna with our friends.
We went to visit their son Jared in Sterling. Boy does he look like a real mountain man living in the woods with his wife. They even live in a log cabin.
We got to go to the Kenai River too. There were people fishing but we didn’t see any fish.
Then we met Brodie who is one of their granddaughters. She was visiting from Washington with her mom, Tiffany.
Brodie even shared her cotton candy with us.
It was a lot of fun visiting Soldotna and Sterling. Can’t wait to see where we go next.
Our friends asked if we wanted to go camping with them. We agreed to go because we have never been before and it sounded fun.
The first place they took us was the Girdwood Forest Fair. There people with flowers in their hair, people all dressed up and even pirates singing. We thought this place was pretty cool. As you follow the trails through the forest you will find all kind of booths. There was really a lot of people though.
Then we stopped for a nice brew at Girdwood Brewery.
We found a nice place to camp by a pond. The camper was really comfortable and scenery was nice.
I got to play with the twins. That was lot of fun. They are really cute.
The next morning we packed up after breakfast. This camping stuff is fun. I hope they invite us again.
We will say Good-Bye for now and hope to see you soon.
Well this is our last day before we head home to Alaska. We enjoyed a couple of breweries, met a new friend, Donbird, went looking at the boats and had one last meal with our friends the Crewdsons.
We know this adventure is coming to an end but are sure we will have many more great times with the Crewdsons.
This is our last road trip before we all fly home to Anchorage, Alaska. Can’t wait to see where we go today.
Looks like we are headed down a long gravel road today.
We stopped for a photo at the river as we entered Fjallabak Nature Reserve.
Then we had a nice picnic lunch in Landmannalaugar Highlands.
Next we went to the hot pool which once again we did not get in because we didn’t bring our swimming suits. I think we might have got all squishy anyway.
It was a nice way to end our road trips in Iceland.
We took off with our friends today and they said we were really going to have a great time. I guess they knew where they were going this time.
We did have a great day! We saw some great rivers and waterfalls, played in the snow, went down a long gravel road, checked out some tomatoes and stopped at a brewery for a couple.
Can’t wait to see what adventure they come up with tomorrow.
We set off with our friends this morning heading for the Golden Circle again. It was rainy and very foggy.
David and Cindy actually knew where they were going because we ended up at the Geyser.
After we checked that out we went into the shop and we got to drive a tractor around the store. That was pretty cool.
Next stop was Gullfoss Waterfall. It was huge and fast. It was the most amazing waterfall we had ever seen.
Our next stop was very disappointing to us. It was Fontana Geothermal Baths and we were not allowed in. They said we would fall apart if we went in the warm water. They even said our colors would run. We did get to look at it though.
To make up for it though we got some nice beer at the brewery.
After that we were all pretty beat because we started off early this morning. We can’t wait to see where they take us tomorrow.
